(988, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) Suicide prevention and crisis intervention services are available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress in the United States. Callers to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline are routed to the nearest accredited crisis center in the caller's area. 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline calls are answered by staff at over 200 accredited crisis centers across the United States who provide callers with crisis counseling and mental health referrals. The 988 Lifeline’s Crisis Chat and Text Service routes chat visitors and texters to a subnetwork of crisis centers accredited in providing online emotional support. Specialized services available to Veterans (in partnership with the VA and SAMHSA, calls route to the Veterans Crisis Line), Spanish speakers, and American Sign Language speakers.
