(Help Understanding and Group Support Respite Program) HUGS schedules respite services for enrolled HUGS member families who meet medical eligibility requirements. Volunteers are needed.

Women in Need provides services to men and women 18 years old or older. Services include substance abuse assessments, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, aftercare and individual counseling.

(Domestic Violence Services for Families) When child abuse occurs in the home, violent behavior towards spouses and others is also often present. After a family is required to enter the child welfare system and is discovered to be experiencing other forms of domestic violence a care plan is developed for each family member. Services are then provided for both survivors (victims) and batterers (perpetrators) of violent behavior. Survivors create a safety plan and are offered various supportive services. Batterers are assessed and provided opportunities to learn alternative attitudes and behaviors. This program works with families involved in the child welfare system who are also experiencing domestic violence. Staff work with each family to assess for domestic violence and/or risk factors related to domestic violence. A care plan is developed for each family member. The services that are available for each family include: Domestic Violence Survivor Support and Pattern Changing Groups for Victims, Individual Counseling and Support for each family member, Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on children, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Children’s Support Groups, and/or Adolescent Support Groups.

Kalihi-Palama Health Center offers free family planning educational presentations to all ages and settings within the Oahu community upon request. Family Planning presentations cover various topics including: Sexually Transmitted Infections and Birth Control. As part of this program we offer: Free comprehensive family planning education presentations to all ages and groups, schools and other organizations and free STD and teen pregnancy prevention (including abstinence ) presentations.

(Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Education and support for moms who breastfeed: WIC has specially trained staff to answer your breastfeeding questions. Ask for more information about our breast pump loan program. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. Playmorning (Nene) promotes social skills, creativity, literacy and fine and large motor skills for children, twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 am - 11:30 am only.

Miracle Flights provides free airline tickets to families in need of specialized, distant medical care and/or second opinions. Flight support is provided to children and adult patients at no cost to the family, as many times as necessary. Flight programs include domestic and international travel to U.S. treatment facilities and to train/retrieve service dogs.

Offers parenting education classes to help raise responsible, cooperative, and caring children. Classes are designed for parents of children birth - 18 years old.

Kokua Support Services provides Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and After Care Treatment for clients who require this level of care.

(Domestic Violence Advocacy) Families who are enrolled in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Temporary Assistance to Other Needy Families (more commonly known as “welfare”), are required to be engaged in activities that will ultimately lead them to self-sufficiency. Program recipients for whom issues of safety and domestic violence are interfering with their progress can call upon Domestic Violence Advocacy to help them find support to change their situations. Services include: assessment, service planning, counseling services, case management and linkage and referral. Provides client advocacy for women referred by Department of Human Services (DHS) in need of case management and support to leave domestic violent relationships. Six month time period given to provide victims the opportunity to gain focus and perspective of their personal goals and career choice.

(PSI Helpline) Provides a helpline for support and local referrals for postpartum mental health, along with online information and support groups to help families, providers, and communities learn about the emotional and mental health of childbearing families. Website helps locate specialized support coordinators. The helpline connects callers to crisis hotlines, support groups, and events in that area. Helpline runs 24/7, but is staffed only during business hours. Callers may leave confidential messages anytime and staff will return them as soon as possible.
