Kokua Harvest is Hawaii Island’s food rescue project. We prevent food waste at its source, build community resilience and connection, and strengthen access to healthy, nutrient-dense fresh fruit and vegetables. We harvest and distribute excess produce to low-income communities throughout Hawaii Island. Through the act of rescuing and sharing food, we connect and nourish our community to build stronger relationships and a deeper appreciation for food. Food rescue (also known as “gleaning”) is the ancient tradition of collecting excess fresh food from farms, gardens, restaurants, or other sources and donating it to those in need. It is a successful model for reducing the waste of valuable produce, and it gives low-income individuals access to fresh and locally-grown foods that are not always available in their communities. Hawaii is fortunate to have a year-round growing season and a long cultural tradition of sharing and growing food. Still, every year thousands of pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables go to waste on farms large and small. Backyard fruit trees and excess garden produce also go unharvested. Kumu Ola Hou is a recovery-oriented transitional shelter for people who have experienced trauma associated with homelessness.

Comfort Malama teddy bears are provided to hospitals and Honolulu Department fire trucks. Layettes (Baby clothing) are provided for new mothers in need at area hospitals, as indicated by hospital personnel. Donations of personal care products to Waikiki Youth Outreach and household items to Hale Kipa youth, aging out of foster care.

(DVSF) The Domestic Violence Services for Families program provides counseling services for offenders, survivors and their children who have been referred by DHS programs. Services are provided primarily through group and individual counseling. Serves the Windward and Central area of Oahu. Groups area available after hours in the evening.

Provides care coordination and contracts out to Department of Health awarded private providers, community-based, child-focused and family-centered comprehensive behavioral health care. Serves children, adolescents and their families who may suffer from a variety of emotional, behavioral or social adjustment problems. Provides evaluation, treatment planning, direct treatment and case management through contract providers. Provides consultation to Department of Education personnel and private agencies.

(The Emergency Food Assistance Program, TEFAP) Voice of God Ministries offers emergency food assistance (canned goods, dry goods, water, clothing, toiletries and miscellaneous items) upon product availability. Beginning June 1, 2026 the pantry is open weekly on Thursday 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Provides training and preparation for licensure for foster and adoptive parents. Provides child, adolescent, family, individual, and group therapy. Also provides services to autistic children, psychological evaluations, therapeutic foster care program, and after school and summer day programs and a skills trainer program.

(West Hawaii Processing Center - Ka'u) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. A paper copy of the application can be downloaded, printed, signed and submitted via US postal mail or dropped off in the drop box. National Runaway Safeline provides a confidential, 24/7 crisis intervention for runaway and homeless youth and their families via phone, chat, email, text, and bulletin board. Referrals, conference calling with a parent upon youth's request, conflict mediation, and information hotline available. Free bus tickets home to family or shelter for qualified youth ages 12 years old - 21 years old for persons in the continential US. Advises, explains procedures, and orients victims/witnesses to the criminal justice system. Accompanies some clients to court. Provides information on cases to appropriate persons. Promotes public awareness of victim/witness concerns. Assists victims with restitution, compensation and referral to community agencies if applicable.

Shelter facilities provide guests with hot showers, daily meals (3 meals a day), storage lockers, mail service, and access to services that include case management, healthcare, employment, and housing assistance.

(Hawaii Baptist Academy Preschool at GracePoint) Hawaii Baptist Academy (HBA) at GracePoint allows the children to grow at their own individual rates of development. We provide a variety of hands-on experiences to help children not only develop their basic concepts, but to also develop a positive sense of self concept, self-confidence and self-esteem. By building sound social and emotional skills the children are better able to become successful in their academic growth. The program is based on sound principles of child development and early childhood education. At HBA Preschool at GracePoint, we believe that the children learn best by doing. At school we focus on the process rather than the product in the work that the young learners render. We see play and hands-on experiences as the foundation for academic or “school” learning. Provides information on Advance Care Planning to help people who may be facing serious illness and their loved ones prepare for decisions they may need to make as a person's illness progresses. Provides information on advance directives and is Hawaii's clearing house for POLST (Providers Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment)a portable medical order for people with advance illness. Provides professional and public education, advocacy and public policy, referrals and resources on palliative and hospice care, and leadership for statewide palliative and end-of-life care initiatives. The "Let's Talk Story" Program will go to community groups, churches and temples and provide free training.

Provides confidential crisis intervention, legal system advocacy/ support, counseling, and medical services for sexual assault victims. Victims choose whether to report to police. Staff will be present at police interview if desired. Prevention education to schools and community also available. Also provides counseling services to anyone who has been sexually assaulted at anytime.

(Wendys Wonderful Kids - Adoption Services) Wendy’s Wonderful Kids offers proactive, child-focused recruitment of adoptive families for children who have been placed in long-term foster care. Sponsored by the Dave Thomas Foundation, this unique program provides intensive social work services to find the best adoptive home for a child by exploring all facets of the child’s family, school, and friendship circles, as well as recruiting families from the broader community. Goals: • Increase the number of foster children placed with loving, adoptive or guardianship families in Hawaii • Develop supportive and warm relationships with children waiting to be adopted/legal guardianship • Provide information and resources to prospective and adoptive/guardianship parents • Increase community awareness of foster care adoption • Streamline the adoption process • Improve the quality of life for children in the permanent care of the Hawaii • State Department of Human Services by providing a “forever” family in Hawaii

(Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Education and support for moms who breastfeed: WIC has specially trained staff to answer your breastfeeding questions. Ask for more information about our breast pump loan program. Nourishing supplemental foods: Checks to buy healthy foods such as: Milk, Peanut butter, Fruits and vegetables, Canned tuna or salmon, Juice, Whole grain breads, tortillas, Eggs or brown rice, Cheese, Baby foods, Cereal Infant formula, Dry beans or peas, Tofu, and soy milk Health and social service referrals: Help in finding health care and other community services.
