Pacific Whale Foundation's mission is to protect our oceans through science and advocacy. Conducts scientific research of ocean, coral reefs and marine mammals. Applies research findings to preserve natural marine habitats and animals. Provides public education, encourages community participation through lectures, school visits, natural history cruises, snorkeling trips and whale watching cruises. Offers internships for interested researchers who apply. Manages Adopt-a-Whale and Adopt-a-Spinner Dolphin program allowing interested citizens to receive information on the movements and developments of a specific whale. Provides information and referral to anyone interested in assistive technology (AT) devices and services for people with disabilities. Operates equipment loan banks statewide. Provides training to consumer and professional groups. Works to ensure that schools, vocational rehabilitation agencies, and health insurers provide assessments, funding and training in the use of AT devices and services for their clients. Administers a low-interest financial loan program to assist individuals in purchasing assistive technology when no other sources of funding are available. Assistive technology is any item or equipment that has been specifically designed or modified to enable people to maintain or improve their functioning while ensuring their quality of life. Provides information on Advance Care Planning to help people who may be facing serious illness and their loved ones prepare for decisions they may need to make as a person's illness progresses. Provides information on advance directives and is Hawaii's clearing house for POLST (Providers Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment)a portable medical order for people with advance illness. Provides professional and public education, advocacy and public policy, referrals and resources on palliative and hospice care, and leadership for statewide palliative and end-of-life care initiatives. The "Let's Talk Story" Program will go to community groups, churches and temples and provide free training.

HI-EMA provides community education on hazard awareness, and disaster preparedness, and conducts professional training programs.

(Family Peace Center - Oahu, FPC) Oahu Family Peace Center teaches non-violent problem-solving skills for families struggling with adult aggression and behavioral dysfunction. The program emphasizes partnership, equality, and respect among families. The center provides support for survivors/victims and child witnesses of domestic violence that includes individual and group counseling, case management, parental classes, community referrals, and legal system advocacy. Support for offenders includes violence intervention groups. Community education and training for schools, community groups, and agencies available. Groups area available after hours in the evening. Distributes information on cancer's "seven warning signs" and emphasizes prevention through healthy lifestyles to reduce cancer risk. Promotes early detection to increase survival rates through regular physical examinations. Loans equipment (hospital beds, wheelchairs, commodes, etc.). Through volunteers, provides transportation to medical treatment. Also offers support group meetings and stop smoking programs, cab vouchers.

(Opala, Plastic Bag Ban) Develops and administers City and County recycling programs. Provides island residents and businesses with information regarding current recycling programs and programs in development for the island of Oahu, including drop-off recycling centers, recycling for condos and businesses, backyard composting, workshops. Call about the Plastic Bag Ban that became effective on 7/1/15. Accepts green waste and Christmas trees at City facilities or directly at the composting sites.

(BHOF) Provides a variety of educational programs and services to patients, their families and health professionals, including: written information on the prevention, detection, and treatment of osteoporosis; a website that is regularly updated with the latest information on bone health and osteoporosis; a patient information service; professional educational materials; and assistance in establishing and maintaining support groups. Works to increase public awareness of osteoporosis through prevention programs and campaigns, public policy forums and grassroots efforts.
