(The Maui Farm) The Family Strengthening Program is a farm-based residential program providing transitional housing and life skills training for families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to domestic violence and economic issues. With a focus on the whole family, the program provides opportunities for daily learning and application of healthy life skills and effective parenting strategies in a safe home environment, and strengthens families to remain intact and healthy. Working in collaboration with partner agencies including Women Helping Women and other homeless services provider agencies, The Maui Farm’s services strengthen the continuum of care for struggling families. We provide a housing and family strengthening component after emergency shelter services have been maximized, and before families move on to long-term affordable housing in the community. The average duration of program participation is six to eighteen months. Shared housing is provided on-site at The Maui Farm, with monthly rental fees determined in compliance with federal HOME Program regulations.

The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Provides specialty care, non-emergency medical care, including physician services, laboratory and x-ray, occupational health services such as contracted pre-employment physical examinations, drug tests, worker's compensation care and immunizations for adults. Provides confidential individual, group, family treatment programs for substance abuse. Conducts programs over 12 - 15 weeks. Focuses on education, skill building, therapy, psycho-education. Serves court-referred youth and students at participating schools. Residential services including intensive therapy of chemically dependent youth referred by families, courts, CAMHD, others.

(North Shore Food Bank) North Shore Food Bank provides a walk in food distribution at Waialua Community Association (Haleiwa Gym). Additional community services include help with community health servies, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application help, and other information for person who may be houseless. (MRTP, Maui Relief TANF Program) The Maui Relief Program is a program that provides benefits to eligible families with dependent children, or individuals, who were directly impacted by the wildfires. This program is separate from the ongoing TANF cash assistance benefit and has a different application process, eligibility criteria and requirements. The program benefits are not intended to meet a family’s recurring needs and will not extend beyond 4 months. Funding for people without dependent children is very limited. We encourage you to apply as soon as you can to be considered for assistance. When applying, please take into consideration that the current queue time is approximately two months. Survivors are strongly encouraged to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance prior to applying for support through the Maui Relief TANF Program. DHS wants to ensure families maximize available disaster relief efforts. FEMA housing has been extended through February 2027. Please use this time to secure the required documents and submit an application for MRP assistance a few months before you leave FEMA. The Program will help families with household incomes that do not exceed 350% of the 2023 Hawaii Federal Poverty Level, or individuals, with a: -One-time deposit to secure long-term housing (your family unit has a signed lease/rental agreement for 12 months or more. The security deposit must not be paid, as we cannot reimburse.) -Long-term housing payments up to 4 months (your family unit has a lease/rental agreement or is paying a mortgage) -Short-term housing payments up to 4 months (your family unit has a lease/rental agreement for less than 12 months or is temporarily staying at a hotel, vacation rental, etc.) -One-time down payment to purchase a four-wheeled personal automotive vehicle designed for passenger transportation for up to $6,000 (your family unit will sign a pending bill of sale/buyer's order before your 10-day pending deadline. The down payment must not be paid, as we cannot reimburse.) -Automobile payments up to 4 months, up to $1,000 each month (your family unit has a lease/auto loan agreement. If purchasing through a private seller, we can only assist with the loan in addition to the down payment if the total vehicle price is $10,000 or less.) -One-time utility deposit to connect utility sources (your family unit established accounts with utility companies) -Utility payments up to 4 months (your family has accounts with utility companies) -One-time clothing allowance for adults. -Every 12 months, clothing allowance for children (between ages Birth - 17 years old). -Every 12 months, allowance for school supplies for children between ages 5 years old - 17 years old. -One-time replacement of a refrigerator unit, actual cost up to $1,000   -One-time replacement of a range unit, actual cost up to $1,000 -One-time replacement of a washing machine unit, dryer unit, or both, actual cost up to $1,000 or up to $1,750 for replacement of washer and dryer   -One-time replacement of a microwave or toaster oven, or both, actual cost up to $200.   Note: Information on immigration status is only requested to determine the source of funds to which the benefits will be paid.

Kokua Support Services provides Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and After Care Treatment for clients who require this level of care.

Provides meetings for people with a drug problem. Some meetings are limited to substance abusers or women only. On August 8, 2023, a series of wildfires affected the city of Lahaina, on the island of Maui. Please call the Maui Helpline for the current status of meetings on the island.

(Community-Based Mentoring Program) Case Managers at Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii work with parents, guardians, therapists, counselors, schools, and youth serving organizations to identify and pair under-resourced youth from ages 6 years old and older with one-on-one mentors. Case Managers create an outcome development plan in collaboration with the parent/guardian, child and volunteer. Plans are updated yearly. Youth and their mentors meet 2-3 times per month for a few hours each outing. Outings are selected by the youth. Mentors pick-up their mentees and are responsible for transportation and other costs they incur. Some of the costs are offset by sponsored activities and discounts at partnering companies.

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Kukui Center was designed and renovated to meet the need to provide an easily identified and specialized place where abused, vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families can receive the help they need. Professional and volunteer help is available elsewhere throughout our community but in many different locations. Even when needed, the follow through on referrals can be poor as parents and young adults are often overwhelmed by the demands of their daily lives. Housing a variety of services together is more user friendly for children, youth and families and will help insure they can access the strong community support that is available.

Women in Need provides services to men and women 18 years old or older. Services include substance abuse assessments, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, aftercare and individual counseling.

Parents And Children Together provides support through home visits and works in partnership with families. Our parenting curriculum promotes safe and nurturing parenting and access to resources about healthy child development. Our program serves families with children ages birth through 5 years old and families who have struggled to keep their children from harm or need additional parenting support. United States Veterans Initiative Hawaii provides transitional housing in a safe, sober environment with case management and employment assistance for veterans.

Prevents and protects persons and property against crime. Enforces county ordinances and state laws. Investigates missing persons, juvenile offenses, criminal activity. Coordinates traffic safety. Registers and issues firearm permits. Administers and promotes community education and prevention programs such as DARE and Neighborhood Watch.
