Shelter of Wisdom rents homes which are shared by our men. Men live in double rooms with shared living areas and house chores. We provide intensive case management until our men are accepted into permanent housing. We provide household furnishings for their new homes, which are donated to us by the community. Men must maintain their sobriety, hygiene, medications, meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping and behavior.

Provides weekly Tutu Support Group that includes counseling, advocacy, information and referral, education and training. Program is for grandparents who are raising or caring for their grandchildren. Agency also umbrellas an outrigger canoe paddling program for youth 10 years and up, and adults. Oldest adult paddling with program is 83 years old.

Registers and issues firearm permits. Administers and promotes community education and prevention programs such as Crimestoppers, DARE, Neighborhood Watch.

(SNAP Outreach, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Outreach, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. Hawaii Foodbank Kauai’s SNAP outreach program helps with completing SNAP applications.

Operates 24-hour child abuse and neglect hotline. Receives all reports of child abuse or neglect. Provides case consultation and assessment. Provides crisis intervention on behalf of children in need of immediate protection.

(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. (SASS, Empowering Alternatives Program, EAP, Sexual Assault Response and Advocacy Services, SARAH) Operates a 24-hour crisis hotline for persons affected by a sex assault, including women, men, girls and boys. Offers information, referral and direct support to any person victimized. Support is also provided during police, medical examinations and legal matters surrounding the crime, advocacy, counseling, and therapy.

Operates a comprehensive treatment program for chemically dependent adult men and women. Includes individual, group, family counseling, and psycho-educational skill building seminars. Family participation is strongly encouraged.

Program, Pet Lost and Found Services, low cost vaccination clinics, pet food bank, Assistance with Neighborhood Animal Issues by educating animal owners about their responsibilities caring for a pet and investigating animal law violations, Pet Adoptions, Emergency Sheltering Services for pets, Pet Boarding Services and quarantine boarding services for new residents moving to the island, Animal Rescues and Cruelty Investigations, Pet Support Services, Pet Loss Grief Counseling and Cremation Services, Foster Care, Humane Education, Volunteer Program, Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture approved Direct Release Program for animals arriving from the mainland at Lihue Airport, Save Our Shearwaters rescue and rehab of endangered seabirds. Off-leash small and large dog park available to the public.

LDAH provides mentoring, technical assistance and training to parents/families of children with disabilities or suspected disabilities in special education.

Army Community Service's New Parent Support program is a professional team of nurses and social workers who provide free non clinical parenting support and education to army families who are expecting or have at least one child birth - 3 years of age. Services include home visiting, office visits, play groups, referrals, resources and classes/events.

(YWCA of Kauai Sexual Assault Treatment Program) Offers confidential crisis intervention counseling and support services for rape victims. Will accompany victims to hospital for examination, or to police for reporting, and to court if prosecution takes place. Provides speakers to schools and organizations, public education on sexual assault and harassment. Offers counseling and support services for children who have been sexually abused or molested by non-family members. Provides confidential group and individual counseling for adults molested as children.

Provides parents the opportunity to play with their children, exposing them to new equipment and skills, while encouraging social skills. Also provides parents the opportunity to meet and share with other parents who have children the same age as their own.
