(Food Pantry, St Joseph Catholic Church Food Pantry) Saint Joseph Catholic Church provides a food pantry for those in need. Each household receives one bag of groceries and one bag of fresh vegetables and/or frozen items. Households with 4 or more members receives two bags of groceries and two bags of fresh vegetables and/or frozen items. Clients need to register with the Food Pantry to qualify when they receive their food items for the first time. Food donations of canned fruits, meats, soup, beans, vegetables, cereal, and juice are welcome. Any food donations can be left in the food donation bin at the entrance of the church.

(Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool) Tutu and Me aims to identify, recruit, and service this undeserved segment of the Native Hawaiian population through an innovative traveling preschool program done in cooperation with churches and community organizations serving the Hawaiian and part-Hawaiian community. Tutu and Me aims to meet the developmental needs of these young children and to support the grandparents as well as parents and other primary caregivers who are raising them. Teaching teams, comprised of early education educators, travel to pre-selected communities where they set up, conduct, and facilitate the program. The curriculum is organized around learning themes and cultural aspects, as well as those values that continue to influence the lives of native Hawaiian children, are also incorporated into the curriculum.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration.

(Mobile Food Distribution - Kihei) Feed My Sheep provides food boxes to those in need.

(Domestic Violence Advocacy) Families who are enrolled in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Temporary Assistance to Other Needy Families (more commonly known as “welfare”), are required to be engaged in activities that will ultimately lead them to self-sufficiency. Program recipients for whom issues of safety and domestic violence are interfering with their progress can call upon Domestic Violence Advocacy to help them find support to change their situations. Services include: assessment, service planning, counseling services, case management and linkage and referral.

(CCSS) Focuses on helping parents learn better parenting skills. Also teaches children skill building. Provides counseling to address selected issues. Parenting groups also available for parents who want to increase their parenting skills. Current classes held in Hilo, Kurtistown and Pahoa.

Provides care coordination to target populations. Participates with communities to problem-solve health issues. Provides education in women and child health, chronic diseases, etc. Facilitates access to health care. Conducts screening tests and source/contact investigations on tuberculosis (TB) cases. Provides health services in public schools, consultation services to private schools, day care and residential care homes.

(MIECHV) Partnering with ‘Ohana from pregnancy until kindergarten. ‘Ohana receive weekly home visits where they have the opportunity to grow in positive parenting practices, learn about their child’s development, and build a loving relationship between parent and child. Our Parent Educators provide the Parents as Teachers (PAT) and Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) programs as a part of the your ‘Ohana Network of the state of Hawai’i. Imua Autism Services works with children up to 6 years old using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is an evidence-based, therapy that focuses on improving social skills, communication and human behavior and is an effective method to help children with autism and other developmental disabilities learn the skills they need to move forward. Imua Family Services understand that each child learns differently. Our goal is to provide an interactive, fun, play-based learning program. We take a collaborative approach incorporating family members and caregivers to develop a comprehensive plan. We work to personalize educational programs for both the child and parents using interviews, observations and natural environment assessments. Imua Family Services also provides ABA services through our Therapeutic Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness Program.

(Brethren of Christ International Preschool) Brethren of Christ International provides a daycare and preschool for children ages 2 years old - 5 years old.

Serves as an informational resource for all EPA programs. Provides EPA materials to general public, Federal, Hawaii State and county government agencies, elected officials and environmental organizations. Conducts environmental outreach activities through Hawaii schools, community groups and environmental events. Developed teacher information packets of environmental lesson materials. Conducts speaking engagements at schools for all grade levels and the general public. Works to facilitate communication flow between Hawaii media and EPA personnel by assisting reporters in obtaining background information on news release subjects or directing the media to the proper Regional sources.

(HCHP, CBCM-RS, Community Based Case Management- Recovery Services, Ohana Project Services, Shelter Plus Care) Health Care for the Homeless Project (HCHP) is offered at our Kaaahi street clinic and Kohou street clinic. The Kaaahi street clinic is at the Institute for Human Services (IHS) Homeless Shelter for Women and Families. Primary Care health services are provided to single women and families who are guests of the IHS Homeless Shelter, single men, and community members: Including adult medicine, chronic disease management, immunizations and flu shots, infant and well-child check ups, physical examinations, psychiatric counseling and medication management for adults, and women’s health.

The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. Early Childhood Services are provided to children three to six years old with delays in which age appropriate milestones are not yet met. These children typically fall outside the scope of the Department of Education & Special Education Services. The needs of each child are met through professional therapeutic services designed for the child to help them thrive in their home, preschool and community. Our goal is to better prepare the child for kindergarten and beyond by using family engagement techniques and strategies.
