(Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Education and support for moms who breastfeed: WIC has specially trained staff to answer your breastfeeding questions. Ask for more information about our breast pump loan program. Early Intervention Services are for children from birth to age three who have developmental concerns and focuses on improving the physical, cognitive, communicative, adaptive, social and emotional development of the child. Social Services: Supports immigrants, refugee and low-income residents, and human trafficking victims with skill building that lead to self-sufficiency. Provides immigrant and case management services, assistance with applying for health insurance, job training and placement, translations and interpretations to immigrants to ensure language access; refugees resettlement in meeting their key transitional needs, community and cultural orientation. Economic development: Provides workforce training, education and placement and job creation initiatives to immigrants, refugees and low-income residents of Hawaii towards economic self-sufficiency. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Kukui Center was designed and renovated to meet the need to provide an easily identified and specialized place where abused, vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families can receive the help they need. Professional and volunteer help is available elsewhere throughout our community but in many different locations. Even when needed, the follow through on referrals can be poor as parents and young adults are often overwhelmed by the demands of their daily lives. Housing a variety of services together is more user friendly for children, youth and families and will help insure they can access the strong community support that is available.

Hina Mauka objective is provide a comprehensive services delivery system of residential, day treatment and aftercare levels of care. Hina Mauka’s objective is to provide a separate track for co-occurring disorders consumers deemed appropriate. Another objective is to provide a longer term treatment perspective that incorporates the stages of change research to “meet the consumer where they are”. Cognitive restructuring techniques; motivational enhancement interventions and motivational interviewing techniques; relapse prevention; and other services are designed to help the consumer foster independence, connect to community-based services, and participate in support activities to increase stability. (ORL Processing Center) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. (Wendys Wonderful Kids - Adoption Services) Wendy’s Wonderful Kids offers proactive, child-focused recruitment of adoptive families for children who have been placed in long-term foster care. Sponsored by the Dave Thomas Foundation, this unique program provides intensive social work services to find the best adoptive home for a child by exploring all facets of the child’s family, school, and friendship circles, as well as recruiting families from the broader community. Goals: • Increase the number of foster children placed with loving, adoptive or guardianship families in Hawaii • Develop supportive and warm relationships with children waiting to be adopted/legal guardianship • Provide information and resources to prospective and adoptive/guardianship parents • Increase community awareness of foster care adoption • Streamline the adoption process • Improve the quality of life for children in the permanent care of the Hawaii • State Department of Human Services by providing a “forever” family in Hawaii
